Fresh Leaf Indigo

  • Bloom & Dye Trout Lake, WA (map)

The workshop will take place at the Bloom & Dye flower farm and studio where you will harvest indigo and learn simple techniques for creating a range of blues from light to dark on silk, wool and cotton fibers. Explore the art of shibori and make a fresh leaf, indigo dipped, silk furoshiki which is a traditional Japanese method of using cloth to wrap important items, often given as gifts, which dates back to the Nara Period. Play with freshly extracted pigment to paint and print on fabric. Each student will take home a fresh leaf indigo shade chart sampler, a shibori designed silk furoshiki, indigo stalks that can be used to grow your own indigo and a craft notebook with instructions so you can continue your exploration at home. No previous experience necessary. Open to adults 16 & up.
