Learn what to do with all those left over dye baths to get the most color out them and how to make concentrated pigment extracts. The lake making process is a great way to extract pigment to save for painting and printing. In this class we will make a half a dozen lake pigments from botanical dye baths, including fresh leaf indigo and mushrooms. Learn the process of lake making and techniques for storing and using the pigment. Play with mixing lake pigments into inks for printing and painting on fabric and paper by exploring different ways to mix, bind and apply the pigment. Each student will take home samples of wet lake pigment and prints on fabric and paper along with a craft notebook.
